Competitive Team

This page will be updated to better represent our current program soon (12/27/2017).

Would your daughter like to join our team program?  Below are the requirements for each level…

(MWT-Hartland does not have a boys competitive team program.  Our boys team is housed at our Oak Creek facility.)

USA Gymnastics Xcel Program

MWT-Hartland competes all five Xcel levels.   This is a competitive program that is based on FUN and is an extension of our recreational program.  Athletes workout from 5 – 8 hours per week and gain skills at their own pace.

USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic (JO) Program

  • Super Bees I (Pre-Team)
    • Ages 4 1/2 – 6 years (invites go out to 4 & 5 year olds only)
    • 3 hour per week workout schedule
    • Our Super Bees I currently meet on Mondays & Wednesdays from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm.
    • This is a pre-team level that looks to invite athletes that have exceptional strength, flexibility, athletic ability, and listening skills for their age.
    • Forward roll, backward roll, cartwheel, and handstand are the basic skills that are looked for.
    • The athlete should not be scared to try to climb the rope or try pull ups on a high bar.
  • Super Bees II (Pre-Team)
    • Ages 5 – 7 years (invites go out to 5 & 6 year olds only)
    • 6 hour per week workout schedule
    • Our Super Bees II currently meet on Mondays & Wednesdays from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm and on Fridays from 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm
    • This is a pre-team level that looks to invite athletes that have exceptional strength, flexibility, athletic ability, and listening skills for their age.
    • Skill ability should be at our Hurricane level or above.  Below are the skill sheets for each of our first three recreational classes…
    • The ability to move correctly through a back handspring down a hill when spotted by a coach is required.
    • The athlete should be able to climb a rope and do at least one pull up on a high bar.
    • The athlete should be able to hold an “L” support on the floor.
  • Level 3 (Fun Team)
    • Ages 6 – 10 years (invites go out to athletes ages 6 – 9 years)
    • 7.5 – 10 hour per week workout schedule
    • This is our first level where athletes attend local (2 hour radius) competitions.  The primary focus of this level is working towards the future.  Level 3 scoring potential (and the ability to earn medals & trophies) is not pushed at this level.  Instead of working Level 3 routines…we spend our time gaining strength, shapes, flexibility, air sense, and skills for the future.  Winning the lowest level is NOT our goal…the future is.
    • Our Level 3’s currently workout Monday & Wednesdays from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm and Fridays from 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm.  Our advanced Level 3 group works out on Saturdays from 11:00 am – 1:30 pm as well.
    • Skill ability should be at our Typhoon level or above.  Below are the skill sheets for our Typhoon & Tsunami (advanced rec.) classes…
    • Athletes must have a standing back handspring down a hill by themselves.
    • The ability to move correctly through a kip on bars when spotted by a coach is required
    • 3 pull ups and 3 leg lifts is required.
    • The ability to climb a rope to 12 ft. is required.
    • The ability to move correctly through a stalder press handstand when spotted by a coach is required.
  • Level 4 (Performance Team)
    • Ages 7 years & up
    • 10 – 12 hour per week workout schedule
    • Our Level 4’s currently workout Monday & Wednesdays from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm, Fridays from 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm, and Saturdays from 11:00 am – 1:30 pm.
    • This is the level where we like to see an athlete “learn to compete” (score well) at competitions.  While scoring is important…athletes transition to upper level skills during Level 4 at MWT-Hartland…so they spend no more than 25% or their time working Level 4 routines.  Athletes must have base optional ability to move past Level 4 at MWT-Hartland.
    • Athletes must have all three splits as well as advanced pike (lower back, hamstrings, and calf) and shoulder flexibility.
    • Athletes must have a stalder press handstand.
    • The ability to climb a 12 ft. rope with no feet in an “L” position is required.
    • The ability to do a straight arm kip on bars is required.
    • Athletes must be able to “tumble” forwards and backwards as required by MWT.
    • All USA Gymnastics Level 4 skills are required to make the team.

  • Levels 5 – 10 (Optional Team)
    • Ages 8 years & up
    • MWT-Hartland does not compete or have a Level 5 workout group.  Current Level 5’s would either make our 10 -12 hour Level 4 team or (if they have optional ability) our 16 hour optional group.
    • 16 – 20+ hour per week workout schedule
    • Our base optional workout schedules weekdays from 3:30 pm – 7:00 pm and Saturday from 8:00 am – Noon.  Gymnasts get Sundays and one or two other days off depending on schedule.
    • Summer schedule is 8:00 am four or five weekdays… no weekends.

    • MWT-Hartland participates in the TOPs program on an “invite only” basis.

      • 7 years old TOPS athletes – 9 hour minimum workout schedule
      • 8 year old TOPS athletes – 12 hour minimum workout schedule
